How to Choose Bedding Sets
The bed is a very important part of our physical and psychological well-being, given that we spend about a third of our lives and the quality of sleep is essential for our health. But it is not only the base and the mattress to determine its good quality: the bed linens that suit and goes we also contribute to the quality of sleep. Sheets, blankets, duvets, duvet covers: the choices to dress the sleeping location are different depending on the season and the needs of everyone.
The factors used to dress a bed are different; starting from the snug to the mattress until more superficial:
- Mattress cover
- Fitted sheet corners
- Sheet without corners
- Pillowcases for pillows
- Down jackets
These elements can be combined together, or you can use only certain, even from season to season, combined together or individually.
Each of the items listed above is usually available in standard sizes of the various types of bed:
Double, 160 or 180 cm wide, approximately 2 meters wide for linen
One and a half or double, 130 or 150 cm wide, approximately 170 cm for linen
Single, 80-90-100 cm wide, about 120 cm for linen
For smaller sizes, depends on the age and the subsequent measures of the cot.
As for the length, the beds range from 190 to 200 cm, then the linen must be longer, so wrap the body completely without leaving it ever inadvertently discovered.
When choosing bedding sets, check carefully the measures usually written on the packaging and on the price label: we must know in advance though the measures of our bed, if not we have a standard.
The Topper is an element that must be placed directly on the mattress before the sheets, and serves to protect the mattress from dust and bacteria, but also from sweat and other substances that could penetrate and damage the mattress itself.
Usually the Topper is fender and is equipped with the so-called angles: the angles are the points where the Topper using an elastic system, remains adherent precisely at the corners of the mattress, so that all the Topper remains tense and attacked evenly to the entire mattress.
Alternatively, the mattress cover can also be made of cotton and close by means of elastic laces, tied below the bed.
In addition to the mattress cover, above the mattress you can also place a rectangle of tarpaulin, held together by laces tied under the bed: the tarpaulin, in the case of the bed for children or elderly people, bed can prevent the absorption of urine from the mattress in case of accidents at night.
The sheets are the most important dress, why are those elements that will be in direct contact with our skin, and contribute more to our prosperity overnight.
The sheets are sold in two ways:
Separately, the fitted sheet corners separated from the top sheet and pillow cases;
Combined, the sheet with the corners together at top sheet and pillowcase with same colors, patterns and fabrics.
The sheets can be mainly of four tissues:
Plush wool and can complete the padding of the sheet. Of course when it comes to wool or flannel, fleece, we speak of the cold season, while cotton and linen are suitable for the warm seasons.
Even the silk can be a summer, but of course very expensive choice.
The sheets of a grandmother or great-grandmother’s time, were made with raw fabrics, such as cotton wool or hemp. In such tissues still exist, but the advice is to use them only for aesthetic effect that create (retro, rustic) and not for comfort: these tissues in fact are very scratchy and uncomfortable to the skin.
It goes without saying that artificial materials may cost less than natural ones, but the comfort of natural on your skin is undoubted: let her breathe and breathe naturally and provide a nice contact and healthy, while artificial materials, such as acrylic, return a feeling most often stringy and stuffy.
Blanket with Corners
The sheet with the corners should be put on the mattress cover and a piece of cloth (a fabric from the list above), covered in a rectangular elastic system that makes the same sheet taut and tight to the mattress. The sheet with the corners is the basis on which we rest, one of the direct contact with our skin stays smooth and taut, but not more rigid, more will be comfortable resting above it.
When you choose to use the top sheet and not just a duvet cover, fitted sheet corners should be combined with the top sheet as both fabric as colours and patterns.
Alternatively, if you want to use duvet covers or sheets above sold separately with particular fantasies or created by us, the sheet with the corners can be purchased separately in neutral colors or pastel, so that we can match a bit with everything, or in bright colors to match the predominant color of the element will be matched.
The top sheet is used to create a bridge between our skin and blankets or between our body and the environment (in warmer seasons). From one side and then the top sheet will remain in contact with the skin, the other will be the fabric on which they adageranno the covers.
The part that will come into contact with our skin should be the more soft and comfortable, and also the hottest in cold weather.
The top sheet must have a dimension necessarily greater than the sheet with the angles and measurements of the bed itself, as a portion on each side will trap under the mattress, wrapping the hips completely, so that our bodies can as you say “shove” under the sheets and be completely insulated without draughts from the outside; in the side corresponding to the pillows and then to our face, the top sheet will form a cuff to avoid direct contact with the blankets, or they may be lying on the pillows to filter dust, when are we going to make the bed and leave him at rest during daylight hours.
If instead of rugs, we prefer a warm and soft Duvet, we should necessarily match a duvet cover; the latter has a double function: on the one hand to be in contact with our skin and offer us comfort, on the other hand protect the duvet from sweat, dust and bacteria.
Usually the cover down comforter is made of cotton and you can find it in the most different colours and patterns, combined with the pillowcases.
The duvet cover is therefore a kind of rectangular bag, with a large opening on one side to pull down and often small openings at the corners to pull the comforter and make it stay well lying inside the duvet cover.
Often the duvet covers are reversible: you can turn on one side or the other, depending on the imagination of your choice at the time.
Make the bed when using the jacket paired with the duvet cover is simpler: fantasy the quilt cover in fact in most cases is thought to act as a bedspread, the aesthetic effect and for its size, much larger than the normal sheets. Make the bed with duvet cover, simply means pulling up the cushions, preserve them from dust; in practice serves a single gesture.
The disadvantage of using duvets and duvet covers is that tuck the duvet in her duvet cover is not simple and the duvet covers are also usually quite expensive; having to change the duvet cover with the same frequency as a top sheet, it goes without saying that you must have at least 3 or 4 weekly parts and remains uncomfortable tuck the duvet in her duvet cover whenever you change to wash it. Worth it though try this combination both for comfort instead in the remake the bed, both for sleeping comfort.
The pillowcases are little sacks of the same fabric of duvet cover or bed linen (with same colors and patterns or completely different), which will place the pillows on which we rest our heads at night. The function of the pillowcase is to preserve the pillow from dust and bacteria and create a comfortable contact with our skin.
Closing the pillowcases can be:
To press buttons
Button closure with loop
To wire ties
(More awkward if the cold zipper accidentally comes into contact with the skin)
Usually the pillowcases are sold in pairs for the double beds and a single bed, single beds. Sometimes, with some duvet covers or sheets, may be sold in double quantity: 4 for double beds, 2 single beds, so you can add one or two pillows with the bed.
The bedspread is a large rectangular piece of cloth that covers the bed, protecting it from dust and dressing the bed for your viewing pleasure in watching it. Much larger in scale even of the sheets, because usually must cover the bed on all sides, often down to the ground. Patterns and colours of the bedspreads can be practically infinite, as well as tissues that constitute it:
May also have internal padding, lining, to act as an extra blanket in addition to bedspreads. The “double face” can be used aesthetically both on one side than the other. For the hot season, opt for fresh, lighter cotton bedspreads or linen.
Bedspreads can have added value (as even the sheets) when are embroidered or hand-painted or made entirely or in part: crochet as in all things hand work is worth more than the one made by machines, but you can also find embellishments like embroidery, drawings, prints and crochet hooks made by machine and cheaper (the quality will be lower). In the kit left by mothers and grandmothers certainly there will be some fine work by hand.
Bedding & Seasons
The bed linen must be selected and changed according to the seasons and the climate.
In cold weather:
We choose heavier sheets (wool, flannel, sweatshirts)
We choose a duvet with a degree of adequate heat with its duvet cover that we can change at least once a week (often generally must be changed even the sheets)
We choose heavy blankets with plaid various
The bed of the cold season will therefore be as follows:
Sheet and pillowcases
Duvet cover and comforter or top sheet and blanket
Bedspreads & throws
In hot weather:
Choose cotton or linen or silk
Choose a light down with its duvet covers for the mid-season to the heat
Keep the bottom of the bed a cotton blanket for shelter from the night breeze on cooler evenings of hot weather.
The bed of the hot season will be so so dress:
Sheet and pillowcases
Quilt cover with light down jacket or lightweight cotton blanket
Lightweight bedspreads (cotton or linen)
Blankets, Quilts and Throws
There are many types of rugs, quilts and throws, not to mention those facts and left by mothers and grandmothers in the Kit. Blankets, quilts and plaids are typical of cold seasons.
The duvets and different compositions, natural or artificial, with different degrees of heat and/or freshness.
The blankets, according to the fabric they are made, they give different levels of heat.
The plaid, usually to keep the bottom of the bed, over the bedspread, as decorative elements and ready for afternoon rest or to cover your legs while sitting comfortably in an armchair or sofa in front of the television, are covered with pyle or wool, smaller than traditional blankets, with very pleasant colors and patterns.
