What Is Protection Class IP20, IP65 and IP67?

A common question, especially in the case of electrical equipment is, is that I can wet this thing? In order to answer this question was set to IP classification. In addition, the code to determine international standards of protection and testing, so that manufacturers can adapt and consumers can correctly choose the type of protection they desire.

IP Protection Code
The IP Code (English Ingress Protection Rate) – or Protection Infiltration – also interpreted as International Protection Fee, ranked intrusion protection levels of solid objects (including hands, fingers and body parts), dust, accidental contact and also leakage of liquid material.
For example, an electrical outlet classified as IP22 is protected against insertion of fingers and will not be damaged or become unsafe when installed upright, even if exposed to drip for up to 10 minutes. IP22 is the minimum rate typically required for electrical accessories for domestic, commercial and residential use.
In the code, the 1st digit indicates the encapsulation of the level of protection against access to hazardous parts (eg electrical and moving parts conductors) and the ingress of solid foreign objects. The second digit indicates the package level of protection against access to external liquids, as follows:

5 Dust Join partial dust, yet even a possible ingress of dust will not interfere in the operation of the equipment; protection against contact is total.
6 Powder Total protection against dust, dust and contact.

4 Light jet Waterjet against the encapsulation of any direction should not damage the equipment. Test duration: 5 minutes Water Capacity: 10 liters per minute Pressure: 80-100 kPa
5 Strong jet Jet designed by a nozzle (6.3mm) against the package from any direction must not damage the equipment. Duration of test: minimum 3 minutes Water Volume: 12.5 liters per minute Pressure: 30 kPa at a distance of 3 m
6 Pressure jet pressure jet by a nozzle (12.5 mm) against the package from any direction must not damage the equipment. Duration of test: minimum 3 minutes Volume of water: 100 liters per minute Pressure: 100 kPa at a distance of 3 m
7 Soaking up to1 m Inflow of water sufficient to produce damage must not be possible under the specified test conditions. Duration of test: 30 minutes Immersion in 1 meter measured in the device base, since the top is immersed at least 15 cm.
8 Greater immersion to 1 m The machine is designed for continuous immersion in water under specified conditions. Typically, this equipment is hermetically sealed (shielded). However, in certain equipment, although there is water ingress, the amount is not enough to cause damage. Test duration: continuous immersion
